Class Reflection 3/31/11

Today class started slightly early and we had to come at 4:30.. Doc Chris came at 5!! should we put him on trial?? :)

We had an exam today but it wasn't a typical exam.. we travelled upstairs to Boulder with our cell phones and took videos and pictures of our surroundings using sight, sound and motion. It was so awesome to have such a hands-on test. People eating in Boulder were very curious as to what we were doing and I could tell they were VERY envious that we were taking an exam.. I bet no other professor gives an exam like the one we had to take!

From this experience learned how to apply sight, sound and motion to real life situations!

Class Reflection 3/24/11

Today was yet another entertain class with Doc Chris!

First class started off with court. Each person that missed class on St. Patty's day was interrogated in front of the class by Doc Chris. Unfortunately, I was one of the people to skip class on Thursday but it wasn't too bad. I plead guilty and was let off! PHEW Of course, sight sound and motion was used in the process and Doc Chris interrogated us while video recording us at the same time. To put an even bigger effect on the court, "Law and Order" music played in the background.

Next a student posted a video from YouTube..

We recorded sight, sound and motion for this as well on our class Facebook page.

Then we had a QUIZ! Luckily, as students in Doc Chris' class, the quiz was unique and entertaining at the same time. We simply had to record sight, sound and motion for three different things presented by Doc Chris...

Sight Quiz:
First item: a rectangular gray box with upside down letters on the front. a black circle is also in the front with a blue light coming through it. it is hanging from the ceiling by a black thin object. there is a black vent on the side and the bottom has different buttons and letters.
*this is a projector handing down for the ceiling

Second item: a large white/greyish box with two drawers on the bottom. the bottom drawer is slightly larger than the one above it. there is a large section above it but it does not appear to be a drawer. there is letters on it. the drawers on the bottom have handles.
*this is a printer

Sound Quiz:
trombones, a man singing, cheering, clapping, drums, background singers, jazz instruments, piano, saxaphone. the chorus consists of him saying "i feel good" and there is a nice beat. music is played by itself without the man singing and he comes in at the end. The music is fast paced and upbeat.

Motion Quiz: (SO EMBARRASSING)
- leaning backwards, rubbing his head, moving body like he doesn't have a backbone
- walking sideways and dancing, skipping
- she's walking forward and touching her hair as if walking down a runway
- he's touching his head and moving his hands to the back of his head
- he's walking foward while leaning backward
- she's walking forward as if she's swimming and doing the frontstroke with her arms
- he's rolling his arms and dancing backwards
- he's moving forward and backwards by swinging his arms
- they are kicking their legs to the side and jumping
- doc Chris is moving his legs slowly and then he goes into a squat and jumps

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods' Interview with Jimmel Fallon

Sight:

Two men in nice suits appear to be engaged in conversation. One is light skinned and is sitting behind a desk. The other man is dark skinned and sitting in a blue chair. They are both smiling and speaking to one another. In the background there is a night city skyline seen through a window. The scene focuses on a rectangular small object and then the scene focuses on the two men again. The scene shifts and the dark skinned man is standing in a red shirt and the white skinned man is wearing a grey and white striped shirt. The white skinned man is jumping up and down and putting his hand in the air. He is smiling and appears to be yelling. He then is shown eating food and smiling. The scene shifts back to the two men engaging in conversation and a blonde woman appears to the right of the man in the blue chair. She appears to speak and then the men continue their conversation. The clip ends with the two men shaking hands.

Sound:

Two men are having a conversation with a neutral volume. Throughout the clip, people in the background clap, cheer and laugh at what the men are saying to each other. Jokes are told that the people in the background find very funny. The sound changes to an edited, live-sounding atmosphere and a man is cheering. The two men with the quieter background are heard again and they continue their conversation while people in the background cheer and laugh.

Motion:

The two men are pretty still except for the movement in their arms and hands. Their heads turn slightly and they move when they laugh or smile. The man in the chair keeps his leg grossed while the man in the desk is leaning over towards the man in the chair. At the end of the clip, they reach over to each other and shake hands.

Class Reflection 3/3/11

The class before spring break I had to go home early and miss one of the best classes yet! :( Doc Chris got everyone food from Panera Bread and class was held in the area of Starbucks in the College Center.

The class talked extensively about Charlie Sheen and his infamous interview on CBS. Of course, along with the rest of the country, I have seen it and I'm very confused as to what is going on in this man's head. The video is very hard to follow and to me, Charlie doesn't seem to be making a lot of sense. He's smoking a cigarette while being interviewed but fortunately he does claim he is clean and not doing any drugs. I do believe he's sober and clean but his behavior was very interesting. He kept moving his body and making strange claims. He says he's not crazy but passionate and that he's too smart to die from drugs. To me, this is a very far fetched statement and I hope he knows what he's doing! I wish the best for him to get better.

Until next time..!

Class Reflection 2/24/11

Class today didn't have the usual exciting and enticing atmosphere. Unfortunately, Doc Chris had to refer to the book to get some information across to the class. In the beginning of class he checked to make sure everyone had theirs and thankfully I had mine! Good thing I didn't get put on trial again.. that's never fun!

Personally I think the book is pretty boring. It's not in color, where an entire chapter is dedicated specifically to color! It's hard to understand the images presented when they are in black and white. For as expensive as it is, I think it should at least provide that!

Regardless, Doc Chris tried to make it as entertaining as possible which was VERY helpful! He had volunteers come up to front of the room to help him demonstrate different lighting. I was one of the lucky students to be able to participate and he shined an iPhone on my face to show how from different perspectives, light will show.

Overall, the class wasn't as exciting as usual but it wasn't TOO bad. Glad the book work is over for today and can't wait for excitement next class!

Class Reflection 2/17/11

Unfortunately, I was too sick to make it to class today and from what I hear, I missed a pretty entertaining class. The class talked about the Grammys with Doc Chris and some of the featured music performances of the night. Justin Bieber and Jayden Smith's performance of "Never Say Never" was discussed, and personally I love the combination of the two artists! I definitely have Bieber Fever and I always love to see him perform and listen to him sing. He's really talented for someone so young and his performance with Jayden was incredible. The two were adorable together and put on a great show.

Also discussed in class was the performance by Rihanna, Eminem, and Dr. Dre. I was excited to hear that the class talked about this performance because that was the video on YouTube I chose to blog about for homework last week! I loved the combination and I was so pleased to see such a GREAT comeback by Eminem. I'm a huge fan!
